Īccording to some sources, only aristocrats who were on a certain list were allowed to walk on this street, hence the name. Their rooms hosted celebrities, both Greek and foreign, such as Constantine Cavafy and Dionysios Solomos. Much of the upper floors have been converted into luxury hotels, such as the "Hotel of England and of beautiful Venice", also known as "Bella Venezia". It consists of two long buildings on the first floors of vaulted galleries, under which restaurants and cafes are located. This street is the epicenter of the city's activity and is very similar to the rue de Rivoli in Paris. During the British administration of the island, the buildings were expanded and completed. The Liston architectural complex was built with the participation of Mathieu de Lesseps and local engineer Ioannis Parmezan. It is one of the most popular sites in the city. It was constructed during the French rule in the Ionian Islands (1807–1814). Liston is the name of a pedestrian street and district in the western edge of Spianada in Corfu.
